IRISH CULTURAL SOCIETY MEETING - Nov. 16, 2008 At 3:14 the attendees at today’s meeting were greeted by PresidentBob Slattery, followed by the invocation by Sister Carmel and the Pledge of Allegiance led by Vice-President Lou Kelley. Minutes of October’s meeting were read and approved as read. Treasurer’s report was presented by Bob Barron. Please see the attached report for details. We were given an update on the AOH member who has been in jail in Raymondville for the past ten months and has finally had a hearing. Program chair Sheila Carolla introduced Inga Gregory who spoke to us about the Fisher House program. She gave us a history of the Fisher family who started the Fisher House, initiated the Hero Account, and their influence in getting the Center for the Intrepid built. The Fisher House at BAMC can house 57 families at one time. Most of the patients are amputees and/or burn victims. There are 42 Fisher Houses in the U.S. and 2 in Germany. Occupancy at this time is about 80%. Our program chair reiterated what a good cause the Fisher House is and encouraged us to donate what we can by the end of the evening of the Christmas party so that we are able to present a generous check to the Fisher House on Ft. Sam Houston. She said that Harp and Shamrock members have decided to donate toys to the place on Lackland AFB. Membership chair Kay Delaney said that only a few members haven’t paid their dues yet this year. At today’s meeting we have 33 members and 12 guests. Our social chair, Ethna Torres, encouraged us to get in our reservations, money and dinner choices as soon as we possibly can, as the deadline is almost upon us. Bob Slattery says that we have SAC’s Loftin Center reserved for the first of March of 2009 for our Irish Heritage Day, but need a date for the St. Patrick’s Day dance. Father Mike called Tommy in Boston, but we still don’t know. Sr. Carmel said she would take care of it. Jane McDaniel announced the upcoming Tell-abration and invited us all to come and hear the storytellers. The business meeting ended at 3:47 pm and was followed by refreshments and a very informative PowerPoint presentation by ICS member Helena Ryan on Belleek china. Respectfully submitted, Susan S.
